Villa Il Cerretino is located on the border between the municipality of Poggio a Caiano and Carmignano, a village that extends into the Montalbano hills and can be reached in just 10 minutes from our villa. Carmignano is known for its eno-gastronomic excellence, with its special dried fig found only here as well as the Carmignano DOCG wine, a wonderful Tuscan red.
This charming town and surrounding countryside offer endless opportunities for visiting ancient churches such as that of SS. Francesco and Michele in Carmignano with the beautiful “Visitation” by Pontormo, the Parish Church of San Leonardo in Artimino, and the Abbey of San Giusto al Pinone. Other interesting stops include the majestic villas such as the Medici Villa La Ferdinanda in Artimino, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2014, or a fascinating archaeological site such as the Etruscan tomb of Montefortini in Comeana, the Necropolis of Prato Rosello or the archaeological area of Pietramarina. There is also the F. Nicosia Etruscan Archaeological Museum, as well as one of the most prestigious outdoor sculpture parks in Europe dedicated to a single author: the Quinto Martini Museum Park.
